South Africa is renowned for its tourist attractions and is often referred to as “a world in one country”. South Africa offers a number of world-famous nature reserves and game parks to suit all budgets. It has eight proclaimed world heritage sites, including the nearby Cradle of Humankind and Vredefort Impact Structure. All these sites are accessible within 3–4 hours of Johannesburg or Pretoria through a combination of air or road transport. In addition to the city attractions on offer in Africa’s premier city, South Africa also offers access to world-class beaches, mountains, deserts and savannah within two hours flying time. There are a range of domestic airlines that fly to all corners of the country.
South Africa is also seen as the gateway to Africa, and offers ready and easy access to all southern African countries, including the nature paradises of Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya, should delegates wish to expand their post-conference tourist activities beyond South Africa.
