The Mine Water Division (MWD) of the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Water Research Commission (WRC) and International Mine Water Association (IMWA) present this bid to host the 11th International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD) in South Africa. Although WISA MWD, TUT, WRC and IMWA are the lead agents in the bid, the bid is supported by a number of South African organisations such as the Council for Geoscience (CGS), Universities, Department of Water and Sanitation and multinational mining companies.
To expand the knowledge and breadth of the INAP mission statement beyond its pure mining related foci, all partners of the bid agree that this conference will be a “Green Conference” and the theme shall be “Risk to Opportunity”.
South Africa belongs to the world’s main mining countries. A large variety of commodities are mined, and the South African mining experience therefore, practically offers something for everyone in the global mining community. Hosting the 11th ICARD in South Africa supports the INAP Global Alliance Partners vision to have true global representation and involvement.
Presentation time shall be 15+5 minutes and 3 to 4 parallel sessions shall be held.
For the plenary session, 2 to 3 internationally and nationally renowned keynote speakers shall be invited. Inviting persons who send their representatives only shall be avoided. Additional 30 minute keynote speeches for each theme will start each thematic session.
